Why is the Centre For Teaching Excellence Moodle site only partly translated?
The Centre for Teaching Excellence Moodle site is bilingual, and work is ongoing to translate the interface and content into Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig).
At present, not all areas of the site are fully translated, including some parts of core Moodle. You may therefore see a mix of languages in menus, buttons, system messages, or help text.
Why does this happen?
There are several reasons why you may see untranslated text:
- Translation of core Moodle and custom site elements is still in progress
- Some plugins, activities, or reports may not yet have translated language packs
- New features or updates may appear in the default language first
- Course‑specific content is translated separately by course owners
Is this an error?
No — this is expected behaviour during a staged translation process.
Seeing mixed languages does not affect how Moodle works or how your course data is stored.
What is being done about it?
Translation work is ongoing and prioritised to improve consistency and usability across the site. Areas affecting navigation and system messages are typically addressed first.
As updates are completed, translated text will appear automatically — no action is needed from you.
What should I do if I’m unsure about something?
If you see text you don’t understand or believe a translation is missing:
- Look for surrounding context — many actions remain clear even if some labels are untranslated
- Ask your course tutor or administrator for clarification
- Contact Moodle support and include the page or feature where the issue occurred
Thank you for your patience while translation work continues.
